Dismantling Of L.V.R.R. Property Now In Progress

Dismantling of the property of the Ligonier Valley Rail Road is now in progress, Luria Brothers Co. of Philadelphia having purchased the rolling stock, rails and ties.

General Manager J. P. Gochnour Jr., who made the announcement, said the company has acquired three locomotives, two gasoline cars, two gasoline-electric cars, one coach, one caboose, and 12 1/2 miles of rail with sidings.

The Philadelphia firm also purchased the 30,000 gallon water tank but resold it to the Ligonier Country Club which plans to use it as a replacement for a wooden tank which provided the water supply.

Gochnour said most of the rolling stock will be moved out by rail and that the tracks will be lifted as a last phase of the operation. Most of it will be cut up for scrap.

The road was officially abandoned August 31 with a Last Mile Run and ceremonies in Latrobe and Ligonier.
