Liggie Transfer Deed Is Recorded
Transfer of a portion of the Ligonier Valley Rail Road Companys right-of-way to the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. has been effected legally.
According to a deed filed in the Westmoreland county court house, the financial consideration was $150,000.
J. Pl Gochnour, Jr., general manager of the road which was abandoned formally with a Last Run program August 31, said the transaction involved the three and one-half miles of track and right-of-way which stretches from the Latrobe terminal to a point just east of Kingston.
He said the Pennsy has been in charge of operations on this portion of the road since Sept. 1, the day after the abandonment.
The remaining portion of the 16-miles right-of-way will no longer be used. In fact the tracks and rolling stock were purchased recently by Luria Brothers, Philadelphia.
All but two gasoline cars already have been moved from the Ligonier shops. The rolling stock and tracks will be sold for scrap.
