Volunteer as a Docent

The Ligonier Valley Rail Road Association is looking for volunteers to serve as docents at our Museum in Darlington. Docents give tours during Museum operating hours and handle sales from the gift shop during those hours. If you are interested in railroad operations & history or are interested in Ligonier area history, this is a great way to volunteer to help your community. But no experience is required. Training will be provided. If you are interested or think you might be interested, please contact the Ligonier Valley Rail Road Association at our email, info@lvrra.org. Thank you!

Special Events Parking Lot Improvement

A big thanks to Bobby Ramsey, owner of Ramsey Excavating, for his community service at LVRRA on a Saturday installing 23 ton of stone in the parking area we use for special events. Bobby volunteered his time and did this work at cost only for the material. He traveled to Mt Pleasant for the stone.

This will greatly improve the parking area for our Free Museum Day & Creepy Caboose events.

Wonderful review of a visit to our Museum.

Brick Memorial Walkway Complete

The Ligonier Valley Rail Road Association has completed the construction of a brick walkway leading to its vintage caboose from the museum parking lot. This was made possible due a grant awarded by the Ligonier Valley Endowment and several anonymous donations. Featured in the walkway is a paver recognizing Judge Thomas Mellon and his sons as the founders of the Ligonier Valley Rail Road. By purchasing bricks the names of a loved one will be memorialized or honored with a personalized engraving. Perhaps your father, mother, or grandfather worked for the railroad and you would like to recognize his or her contribution. The proceeds generated through the sale of these bricks will be added to a capital fund to maintain and update the restored Darlington Station. In preserving the station, future generations will be reminded how the Ligonier Valley Rail Road influenced the development of Ligonier and the Valley. The price per brick is $50 and order forms can be downloaded here, or call 724-238-7819 with your request.

Blue Star Museums Program

The Ligonier Valley Rail Road Museum is one of more than 2,000 museums across America participating in the Blue Star Museums program and offering free admission to active duty military personnel and their families this summer. Although the Blue Star Museums program is active from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Ligonier Valley Rail Road Museum will offer free admission to active duty service personnel all year. Learn more about this program here.
