Had Leg Smashed
A string of empty coal cars crashed into a motor at the Diamond No. 2 mine of the Seger Coal Company, badly crushing the right leg of the motorman, George Norris, 30 years old of Ligonier, shortly after 8 o'clock Monday morning.
Miners released Norris who was pinned between the motor and one of the wrecked coal cars. He was taken to the Westmoreland Hospital, where it was said that the leg may not have to be amputated, although it is badly crushed.
The motorman had attempted to switch the coal cars onto a side track. After fixing the switch he had either accidently kicked it with his foot, or it had failed to work. At any rate, the string of empty coal cars, instead of going down the side track, followed the motor, smashing into it and piling up.
Norris, who was seated on the rear of the motor, had his leg caught in the jam. Norris is married and has two children.
