J. L. Herring, the veteran conductor, of Derry, can recall when he drove a horse and buggy over much of the right of way of the L.V.R.R., in 1873. The project had failed, for lack of money, and for a time it was seemed as though the road would be abandoned.
Mr. Herring also remembers when he brought in over the P.R.R., the first two passenger coaches used on the L.V.R.R., in 1882. The cars had been bought from the P.B. & W., in 1882. He distinctly recalls the rubber springs which were part of the equipment of the cars.
