L.V.R.R. Brakeman Retired On Pension
Samuel Howard of North St. Clair street has completed 43 years of service as a
brakeman on the Ligonier Valley Railroad and on June 1st was entered on the pension list and retired from service. Mr. Howard was a faithful employe of the road, being seldom absent from duty. Part of his work was to look after the mail transit between Ligonier and Latrobe.
At first he carried the mail sacks to and from the Ligonier and Latrobe post offices and the train. Later the mail being heavier he used a wheel barrow, then a hand cart and when
the mail finally became too great for one man to handle other means was employed for its delivery.
During Mr. Howard's service on the road he made many friends who will miss him as they journey to and from Latrobe.
