Big Gas Strike At 7,000 Feet In Westmoreland
Special to The Press
Greensburg, Pa., March 4. Great excitement in gas circles exists at McCance and vicinity because of the big strike by the Peoples Natural Gas Co., which, in conjunction with the government, has been drilling a well on Booth & Flinns territory, for geological purposes. The drillers are down to the depth of 7,000 feet, said to be the deepest gas well in the United States. They had penetrated the sand but a few inches when their tools were blown out of the well and a flow of immense proportions ensued. The roar of the well can be heard in Ligonier, three miles distant.
While it has been impossible as yet to measure the number of cubic feet, experts place the new well in the same class with the best producers of the McKeesport field.
