Gas Struck at 7,000 Feet in Peoples Well
Experiment in Deep Sand Drilling Near Greensburg (Pa.) Proves Success
Drilled by the Peoples Natural Gas Company in connection with government geologists, a gas well came in yesterday at McCance, near Greensburg, Pa., at a depth of nearly 7,000 feet. The flow, according to J. B. Tonkin, secretary of the company, is less than 500,000 cubic feet, and the well will be drilled deeper.
The Peoples Company for some time has been experimenting on wells deep in the sand, on the theory gas will be found more abundantly and in better quality in the lower sands, than in those nearer the surface. According to several gas men the McCance well is one of the first brought in as such great depth.
