Deep Test Gas Well Drilled Near McCance
A test gas well is being drilled near McCance station on the Ligonier Valley Railroad by The Peoples Natural Gas Co. under the direction of a state geologist with the purpose of making a thorough test. The drilling has been in operation for more than a year and in casing the well more than ninety tons of material have been used. The well is said to be down 6,800 feet and it is stated that an order has been received to go down 7,500 feet. The story was in circulation yesterday that gas in paying quantities had been struck, but we were unable to verify the report and have no faith in its being correct, but would be only too glad if it were true.
