Car Situation Affecting Mining Industry Severely
The car scarcity is bothering us more than the embargo, was the way one of the coal and coke shippers along the L.V.R.R. sized up the situation, last night. He said that the embargo wouldnt affect the coal and coke plants so much, most of them having orders for railroad and government coal, - but that they would finding it almost impossible to secure sufficient cars.
He declared the car situation the worst he had ever known, and he said he hated to think of what the conditions might become, should there set in a heavy snow or a spell of weather unfavorable for railroad operations.
There was no sign of any let-up in the embargo against the L.V.R.R., this morning, - and the car situation appeared to be as acute as ever.
The Pennsylvania Railroad Company reported, yesterday, that it had available on 84 per cent of the number of cars needed for priority orders, - that is, orders for railroad and government coal, - with practically nothing left over for the general run of trade.
