Two Men Injured When Cars Ran Off
John Walsage Had Leg Broken In Two Places
Happened On Railroad Last Friday
John Walsage, a laborer on the log train on the private railroad of the Ligonier Lumber Company which owns and operates a lumber mill at Oak Grove, was seriously injured in an accident that occurred on the railroad near Waterford Friday which resulted in badly crushing and breaking his leg in two places. He was taken to the Latrobe hospital Friday evening and an x-ray examination Saturday morning disclosed a serious fracture. A young man named Christner was also slightly injured by having his ankle sprained. The other men on the train escaped without injury except being shaken up by jumping. The men were bringing a loaded log train of four cars down the mountain when control of the train was lost, the heavy loaded cars pushing the engine rapidly down the track. The train finally left the track and there was a bad pile-up of logs, cars and engine. The cars and engine were badly damaged and the logs scattered about along the railroad track. It is said that Walsage refused to jump when the others did, which if he had done, he might have escaped injury.
