Young Man Killed on P. W. & S. Road
The body of James Ankney, a young man living at Allenvale, Somerset county, was cut in twin on the P. W. and S. Railroad, near Mechanicsburg, at 10:30 oclock, this morning.
He was employed on the road as a brakeman, and was at the front end of the first of two cars which were being pushed up the mountain by the engine. Whether he was thrown off by the jumping of the car from the tack, or whether he lost his balance and fell to the rail, isnt known.
He was caught under the wheels of the train, however, and his body was cut in two, while the two cars left the track, a slight wreck ensuing.
The remains were gathered up and were taken, in charge by Undertaker Gaskin, of Ligonier, who prepared them for burial.
The young man was about 22 years of age, and was married. He lived at Allenvale, on the other side of the mountain.
