P. W. & S. Gives Up Passenger Service, Its Said
The Pittsburgh (sic), Westmoreland and Somerset Railroad which has had a somewhat hilly road to travel in more ways than one, during the years of its activities, has suspended passenger traffic on the line, it is said, and according to reports current in Ligonier, the freight end of the business will be given up very shortly, because of the failure of the road to prove profitable. The road is said to be owned by a New York man who became possessed of the bonds, some time ago. First built as a lumber road, out from Ligonier, it later was extended thru to Somerset, and it has service a useful purpose to the section traversed, as well as giving Somerset a much shorter route to Pittsburgh that the one provided by the B. and O.
