L.V.R.R. Order Calls For Positive Control Of Trains

In speaking of the crossing situation, this morning, Mr. W. V. Hyland, of the L.V.R.R., asserted that the company was doing everything possible to prevent accidents to those making use of the crossings. He referred to an order issued to the conductors and engineers on the 12th of October, as evidence of the activity of the company in this respect. The order read:

"To conductors and engineers: Trains will run carefully, and engineers must have their trains under positive control, being prepared to make an immediate stop at any point between Fairmont street and the Latrobe block station."

Mr. Hyland also declared that the company was doing its best to keep standing cars away from the crossings, and he said that he believed little complaint could be advanced in this respect. Time after time, he said, he had made trips to the local yards, in the evening, and only once had he round cars standing where they operated to shut off the view of the tracks, from those approaching the crossings. He said he felt confident that Conductor Knox, in charge of the freight, was doing all in his poser to keep the approaches clear.
