Railroad Has Been Moving As Fast As Possible, Says Ligonier Official

Mr. W. V. Hyland, of the L.V.R.R., seemed sorry, but not at all alarmed, when he was informed, this morning, of the action taken by the council.

He said he felt that the position of the company had not been fairly taken into consideration, at the meeting, that credit had not been given for what had been done, and that the state of business had been overlooked, altogether.

"I do not see how there could be any complaint about cars standing too close to the crossings," said Mr. Hyland, "The way business has been, lately, there have been very few cars in the yards, while the orders to trainmen have been positive, about keeping the crossings clear. As for the cutting-off blocks they are now here, receiving their final coats of paint, and are about ready to be placed.

Mr. Hyland declared that the company had spent hundreds of dollars, trying to put the crossings into shape to suit the borough authorities, and he reiterated the willingness of the company to put in a subway for the children, just as soon as business conditions would justify it.

He said that at present he was striving to hold his organization intact and that thus far not a man had been laid off, nor a salary reduced, despite the slump.
