Western Maryland Said to Be flirting With the P. W. & S.
On a recent visit to Somerset, John B. Manning, who owns the controlling interest in the P. W. & S. Railroad, intimated that the company might make extensive improvements on the road, within the near future. Mr. Manning who was accompanied over the line by Timothy Murphy and Augustine Braly, both of New York, said that the Western Maryland had made an offer for the line but that it had not struck him favorably. He said he believed that the road could be made into a paying property, especially as it affords the quickest route between Somerset and Pittsburgh for passenger service, while he said he didn't see why advantageous freight arrangements could not be made with the L.V.R.R. Excursions to Idlewild, out of Somerset county, he said, ought to be made to pay, also.
