Case Against L.V.R.R. for Damages Settled
A settlement has been made between Bernard Gray, of Clarion, and the Ligonier Valley Railroad Co., whereby Gray received $24,000 as recompense for the loss of his wife, Mrs. Nettie Gray, and injuries received by himself in the Wilpen wreck July 5th, 1912.
An adopted son, Roy Boring Gray, also met death in the wreck, but as he had not been regularly adopted, and there were no adoption papers, Mr. Gray was unable to obtain recompense for his loss.
Mrs. Gray and the boy were instantly killed when the freight crashed into the passenger
train. Gray's right leg was fractured and he was otherwise injured, so that he was confined in a hospital for over two months. It is said that he is crippled as a result of his injuries.
Following the accident, friends came to his aid and paid the doctor's and funeral bills, and he moved to Clairton.
Now that he is financially able, the bodies of his wife and adopted son will be moved from Mechesneytown to Clairton.
