Girl Asks For $30,000 Father $5,000 From L.V.R.R.
The largest suit yet instituted against the Ligonier Valley Railroad, in connection with the claims growing out of the wreck at Wilpen, was begun in the Westmoreland county courts, yesterday, when Alice May Ritenour, through her father and next friend, Joseph K. Ritenour, filed a claim for $30,000 damages, to recompense her for injuries suffered in the wreck, while her father presented a claim for $5,000 because of the expense to which he was put by reason of the daughter's hurts. The papers in the case were filed by Eicher
& Eicher.
The child is 12 years old and lives with her parents at Oakdale, near Ligonier. On the day she was injured she purchased a ticket at Ligonier for Wilpen. In the statement of claim it is charged that the company failed to fulfill its contract to carry her safely to Wilpen, a wreck occurring caused by a head-on collision between the passenger coach and a double-header freight train. According to the statement of claim the girl's right lung was punctured, her left leg bruised and cut and she suffered lacerations about the
face and body. It is also charged that she suffered permanent injuries to her heart in the wreck.
The father in his claim against the company says it was necessary for him to expend $500 for medical attention to his daughter by reason of the injuries she suffered. He also says it will be necessary for him to make outlays of money from time to time to take care of his daughter.
