New "Super" Fought Against Grade Crossings

The picture of W. V. Hyland, the new general superintendent of the Ligonier Valley Railroad, appeared in the Pittsburgh Gazette Times, this morning, together with the following write-up:

William V. Hyland, president of North Braddock borough Council for three years, and a leading official of the McClintic-Marshall Construction Company's plant in Rankin, has been elected general superintendent of the Ligonier Valley Railroad, the connecting link with the Pennsylvania Railroad that operates between Latrobe and Ligonier and from Ligonier to Fort Palmer, Westmoreland county. Mr. Hyland assumed his new duties yesterday.

Mr. Hyland has gained distinction in recent years because of his fight for the abolition of grade crossings on the Pennsylvania Railroad between Braddock and North Braddock boroughs, and it has been largely through his tireless efforts that the consummation of this project is now almost completed at Fourth street, Sixth street and Verona street.

Mr. Hyland was chosen superintendent of the Ligonier Valley Railroad at the meeting of the board of directors at the close of 1912, and his election has but just been made public. He is aged 34, and is a native of McKeesport.
