Coal Mining Interests Boom

Coal mining interests in the north Ligonier township field were never better than at present. Formerly one train was all that was necessary to move the coal and coke daily for the field, now two trains are necessary to do the work. This is the best evidence that the mines are running full time.
At the Old Colony mines, the new owners are about ready to erect one hundred more coke ovens. At the Fort Palmer plant, the company has conditions in shape to erect eighty new coke ovens. At the other plants, some improvements are being made and the mines are running better than at any other time.
During the past fall months quite a lot of coal has been optioned in south Ligonier township in the vicinity of the head waters of the Two Mile Run back of the Zion church district. Contracts for the transfer are being made by the farmers and the coal people Greensburg Tribune.
If you add to the above, prospects of large timber tracts being placed on the market next spring and the option of extensive tracts of coal land along the Loyalhanna creek in Cook Donegal, Ligonier and Fairfield townships, reaching down toward New Florence with a new railroad to carry these products to market, you have some idea of what to expect in this section.
