Report Stated That Trains Nearly Met

The report, heard in town this morning, that a Pennsylvania picnic train and the regular train on the L.V.R.R. had come near meeting, head-on, last evening, appears to have been based upon a mistaken impression. When the regular train left the local station, it seems, it was told to go to the Oakville siding and there back in, letting the Pennsy special by at the point, the latter train having been given orders to wait, at Oakville for it. Not knowing this, but knowing that the Pennsy train had passed Kingston, the man at the Weldon street station flagged the regular train and told it that the special was coming. He was told that everything was in accordance with orders, and the train proceeded on to the siding, where it found the Pennsy train awaiting it. The Ligonier train being long, it had to creep up to within a few feet of the waiting special, in order to get back down the siding. That seems to have been all there was to it.
