Council Wants to Pave a Small Section of Depot Street
The improvement of the portion of East Depot street, extending from the L.V.R.R. eastwardly to the borough line, is likely to be advocated at the regular monthly meeting of the Latrobe borough council, scheduled for this evening; the fact that the county highway to Bradenville is practically completed having led to a new agitation relative to the necessity of paving or otherwise improving the short stretch of road comprised within the L.V.R.R. Y. At present the stretch of paved thoroughfare, extending from Beatty to Bradenville, is broken by this small piece of unimproved road, cutting through the Ligonier Valley Railroad Companys property, and the break is being viewed, quite generally, as not to be borne any longer than necessary.
As the abutting property is owned by the L.V.R.R., two-thirds of the cost of paving would fall to it, the borough being charged with the remaining third. The council, it is said, is anxious to secure the railroad companys consent to the improvement, if possible, preferring an amicable understanding, to a proceeding under the Catlin Act. If the consent cannot be secured, however, it is said to be very likely that the council will go ahead with the improvement proceeding under the recent Act of Assembly.
