More Phone Service For L.V.R.R.
Reported That Signal Service Will Be Installed
With the completion of the stringing of telephone wires from KR tower to the Weldon street station of the L.V.R.R. now being done by B. Berkmeyer's gang of wiremen, the Pennsylvania railroad will have direct communication with the smaller line, and the handling of the freight as well as the main line picnic trains will be greatly facilitated.
It is reported quite currently, that the installation of the telephone system is preliminary to the introduction of a signal system along the L.V.R.R., the same to be operated from KR tower, an additional train dispatcher being station in the tower for that purpose. As
far as can be learned, however, the installation of the telephone connection joining the P.R.R. with the L.V.R.R. is designed simply, to facilitate the movement of trains running from one road to the other.
At present, picnic trains, coming off the valley road, receive orders via the telephone
which stands at the end of the station platform. This stop will be avoided, once the direct connections are installed, it is said. Latrobe Bulletin.
