Benjamin Fraunholtz, Of Latrobe, Ran Over And Instantly Killed
Man Stepped In Front Of Train
The Ligonier Valley railroad has had one of the clearest records of any road in the state during the 35 years of its existence, having in all this time had but two fatalities including the one that occurred at Latrobe Wednesday, March 1, when Benjamin Fraunholtz, a resident of Latrobe, was run down and instantly killed. The first accident of the kind happened a number of years ago.
While on his way home from visiting John Amour, of the Fifth ward, Mr. Fraunholtz walked on the tracks. Seeing the train approaching, the man became confused and stepped from a siding directly in the path of the engine. The train was only a hundred yards away and although Engineer T. J. Dunlap threw on the brakes, the train could not be stopped in time.
The engine, tender and one coach passed over Mr. Fraunholtz's body, killing him instantly. One arm and one leg were ground off, in addition to a fracture of the skull. The victim was 56 years old and is survived by his wife and nine children.
