Dismantling Lumber Mill
Byers-Allen Lumber Mill Being Removed To Southern States
The Byers-Allen lumber mill just south of town will soon be a thing of the past, a rememberance only. The work of taking down the mill and removing the machinery began the middle of last week and has been continuing over since until now the mill has been taken down to the first story and much of the machinery removed.
It is currently reported that the machinery and possibly at least part of the lumber will be shipped to the south into Georgia where a tract of timber has been secured which will be manufactured into lumber and placed on the market. The lumber industry here by this company under the management of the late Capt. N. Byers brought a number of strangers to our community and gave employment to many of our home people, and was of
considerable financial advantage to our town. As the timber tracts owned by these people have been cleared of trees the mill had of necessity to close. This industry will be missed from our town.
