A Substantial Gift To Our Town
Will Be Built Of Brick, Cement And Granite And Practically Fire Proof A Two-Story Station With Offices, Baggage Room, Waiting Rooms And Modern Conveniences For Accommodation Of Public
Arrangements have been made and work will probably begin this week for the
construction of a new station for the Ligonier Valley Railroad Company at Ligonier. This station when completed will be the finest, grandest, most modern and beautiful to be found anywhere in this country. It will equal in size, equipments, convenience and beauty of architecture that to be found in any town of the United States with a population of 100,000 people. It can readily be seen that it is practically a gift by the Mellon people who own the railroad, to the historic old town of Ligonier. Our people will justly feel
proud of this new and grand station which is being built away ahead of the present or future anticipated needs. Ligonier with its fine churches, grand school building, excellent banks, well equipped business houses and many modern residences, city water, gas and electric lights and now its magnificent railroad station will certainly be up to the front line of prosperity and enterprise.
This new railroad station will be 100 feet long by 75 feet wide with offices on second floor, fronting toward the town and having on this side of the station a beautiful and well kept park an attraction alike to citizen and stranger. With the paving of Main street which will likely soon be accomplished the approach to the station will equal that of any modern city arrangements. We were shown the plans prepared by ones of Pittsburgh's best architects and it is certainly all that could be desired in beauty of construction and convenience of arrangement. The large waiting room will by 75 feet long by 30 feet wide, besides there are ladies' waiting room, gentlemen's smoking room, ticket office, etc., on first floor. General Manager George Senft, who showed us the plans, is very much interested in the matter and has given the plan of the station much thought and careful attention as he is always alert for anything that will benefit the railroad and improve Ligonier. We rejoice will all our people in the securing of this new, fine, large and modern railroad station for our town. We hope some day in the near future to be able to give our readers a full description of this new station.
