Famous Engine "Idlewild" Is To Be Scrapped
L.V.R.R. Received A New Engine To Take Its Place Yesterday Afternoon
"Idlewild" Has Hauled Many People In Years Gone By, And Now It Is All Over
There's hardly a man, woman or child in Latrobe, but who will claim an acquaintance with "Idlewild," the engine on the L.V.R.R., which for a score of years past has been hauling the people of Latrobe back and forth between the town and the famous picnic resort. Nearly everyone has been hauled by "Idlewild" at one time or another, and hence it will be with interest that the public learns that "Idlewild" is to be thrown on the scrap pile, its days of usefulness having ended. Yesterday, the Ligonier Valley Railroad Company received a new engine, one of the large four wheeler types, and it will be used
in place of "Idlewild," which in turn is to be scrapped.
The arrival of the new engine, which will be known as No. 11, makes six moguls for the L.V.R.R., although there will be but the old number of five after "Idlewild" goes to the scrap pile. The scrapping of "Idlewild" will leave but three engines bearing names, on the road, the three being "Latrobe," "Ligonier" and "R. B. Mellon." The other engines are simply designated by numbers.
