Fifty New Coke Ovens Are Ready for Operations
First Coke Being Drawn Today
Twenty Ovens Have Been Fired And More Will Follow Soon Work Progressing Rapidly Under Direction Of Thos. W. Keighley, Superintendent - Coke Will Be Shipped Over The Ligonier Valley Railroad And Its Extension

The work on the extensive coke works out at Wilpen is progressing nicely under the management of Superintendent, Thos. W. Keighley. Preparations are going forward for the lighting of 400 coke ovens next summer. Fifty ovens are now about completed and twenty have been fired and the first coke will be drawn today and a shipment made over the L.V.R.R. and its extension out to Wilpen. The mines are being opened and preparations for extensive operations in that section are being made. Wilpen will soon be one of the busiest industries of this section. Before long Wilpen will be the largest town in Ligonier township doing a rushing business with the great coke interests and other business enterprises that must necessarily be developed.

Besides the Shenango Furnace Company works at Wilpen, several other coke plants are being started and Ligonier township along the Hannah's run and adjacent territory will become a great coal and coke industry.
