Capt. N. Byers Dead
Dies From Pneumonia Saturday Night Interment At Williamsport, Pa.
Capt. N. Byers died Saturday night, November 24, 1906, at 10:20 o'clock p.m. The cause of his death was pneumonia which had been contracted several days previous. The Capt. made a heroic fight against the disease and every effort possible was made by his friends and the physicians but the last call came and he had to answer it. He was aged 70 years, 7 month and 23 days and was born in Union county, Pa. He was president of the Byers-Allen Lumber Co. and general manager of the P. W. & S. R. R. Co., coming to Ligonier to engage in business 1899. He was formerly one of the lumber manufacturers of Williamsport, Pa., and at one time a member of the firm of Hopkins, Weymouth & Byers of Williamsport and Lock Haven.
During the civil war Capt. Byers enlisted at his own expense and through his personal efforts Co. G, 147th Regt. Pa. Vol. Inft., was elected captain, led his company through the conflict to the close of the war. He was a member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lauros Allen, of
Buffalo, N.Y.; Miss Effie F. and Miss Bertha B., of Ligonier, Mrs. Byers having died about ten years ago.
The remains were prepared for burial and on Sunday evening were viewed from 9 to 10 o'clock by his many friends of this locality and on Monday morning train accompanied by his daughters and Mr. Allen, his son-in-law, left for Williamsport, Pa., where interment took place.
