Altoona Tribune
Thursday, July 19, 1906

A contract was awarded John Hermann, of Latrobe, for the grading and bridge work of a five-mile extension of the Ligonier Valley railroads line. The building of the new line will make a further development of the extensive resources of the Ligonier Valley. The line to be built especially for the use and convenience of a big coal and coke enterprise, which has bought several hundred acres of coal about five miles from Ligonier and which intends the immediate development of the same, including the opening up of mines, the erection of 410 coke ovens, etc. The extension of the Ligonier Valley Railroad companys lines will mean a greater tonnage for the road, and a great increase in the amount of freight to be shipped by way of Latrobe.
