Big Coal Deal In Ligonier Valley
Means More Coke Ovens And Additional Business For This Section
Smith And Hunter Farms, $83,000

James E. Smith Sold His Farm For $30,000 and Mrs. Mary A. Hunter Sold Her Farm For $53,000 Both Farms Underlaid With Pittsburgh Coal Near Shenango Furnace Co. Plant

An important deal of coal territory was made in Ligonier valley last week when the James E. Smith farm near the Lytle farm on which the new plant of the Shenango Furnace Co. plant is situated was bought for $30,000 and the Mary A. Hunter farm in Fairfield township adjoining was purchased for $53,000 through the agency of R. D. W. Bruner and James Sibel, of Ligonier. These farms lie about four and one-half miles north of Ligonier. The Smith farm contains about 100 acres, while the Hunter farm has 106 acres. There is considerable conjecture as for whom the coal was purchased and by whom and how soon the coal on these farms will be developed.
