Schedule Of Trains Over The Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset
Regular Train Service May 28th
Trains Will Run Daily Making Two Trips Between Ligonier And Somerset And Tickets Sold For Convenience Of Travelers Names Of Stations Along The Route The Road Of Importance To Ligonier
The management of the Pittsburg, Westmoreland and Somerset railroad have arranged a schedule of trains between Ligonier and Somerset to run daily, making two trips each day, and a regular passenger train will be put on Monday, May 28th, 1906. The officers and chief promoters of this road are J. Henry Cochran, president; Alvoni R. Allen, vice
president; Capt. N. Byers, general manager; Lauros H. Allen, secretary and traffic manager. The general offices of the road are at Ligonier. The road is an important one, opening up a hitherto untouched section of the mountain and Somerset county and will be the carrier of much freight traffic, besides a large passenger travel from that section through Ligonier and will be as the Echo has frequently said, a great advantage to Somerset people desiring to visit Pittsburgh and other points adjacent, saving about forty miles in distance, in time and in expense of travel.
The schedule has been arranged with special reference to connection with the L.V.R.R. and the P.R.R., making it as convenient as possible.
The trains will run daily as follows: From Ligonier to Somerset leaving Ligonier at 10:25 a.m., arriving at Somerset at 12:00 m. Ligonier 6:55, arrives at Somerset at 8:25 p.m., remaining at latter place over night will leave Somerset at 5:25 arriving at Ligonier 7:00 a.m. Leaving Somerset at 2:30, arriving at Ligonier 4:10 p.m. These trains will all make connection with the trains on the L.V.R.R., which connects with the P.R.R. trains. Tickets will be printed and sold at the various stations on the road and also at Latrobe and Pittsburgh through to Somerset. This will make it most convenient to the traveling public. Alex. B. Grof, the editor of the Somerset Democrat has been selected for the position of ticket agent at Somerset. He will retire from the Democrat.
There are twelve stations between Ligonier and Somerset and their names from here are as follows: Ligonier, Mellons Crossing, Speedwell, Byers, Rector, Grove Run, Bluestone, Water Station, Laurel Summit, Zufall, Gilette, Allendale, Husband, Somerset.
We rejoice in seeing this road completed and believe it will be of considerable financial advantage to Ligonier, by opening up the timber, coal and bluestone of the mountain and in bringing our eastern border county in closer commercial relation.
This road has always been of considerable interest to us as it passes through the mountain farm at Rector along Linn's Run, just back of the springhouse and through the orchard where we as a boy grew up as a green sapling along the banks of this mountain stream of pure water, laurel, rocks and fine scenery. Up the mountain side the railroad winds amidst mountain beauties and scenery, being a most fascinating and delightful ride this season of the year when nature has assumed her coronation of glory.
