Open P., W. & S. April 10
Announcement made a few days ago that the Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset railroad would be opened soon after April 1, has been officially confirmed by General Manager Byers, who states that the management expects to have through trains operating from Somerset via the Ligonier Valley and the Pennsylvania railroad to Pittsburgh on or about April 10. Track is now being laid just north of Somerset, the masonry of the big Quemahoning tunnel is being completed, and trains are in operation through the tunnel.
The new line will be the shortest between Pittsburgh and Somerset by 40 miles. It is probable that excursions to the summit of Laurel mountain will be inaugurated in the summer.
