Much progress and many improvements are being made in the coal business near
Ligonier at present which will be of an advantage to the financial condition of this section. The Old Colony Coal & Coke Co. is forging right ahead with the work out at their plant. Work is progressing on twenty new double houses being erected for the accommodation of forty families. These houses are good and comfortable and are nearing completion. A new store room 30x60 feet two stories high being built by the Mill Creek Supply Co. is nearing completion and a store will soon be started by above company which has made application for a charter and will soon be ready to do business.
Fifty new coke ovens are being built by the Old Colony Coal & Coke Co. These ovens are nearing completion and will be fired this fall, as there are more orders for coal and
coke than the company can supply. All work is progressing nicely under the
management and superintendency of Ira Brant, superintendent of the plant, and
everything is being hustled right along. For all this work more men are needed and Mr. Brant was away last week securing more men to assist in the work out at the mines.
We are glad to see this important industry progressing, as its success means still further improvement to the town and entire community.
