Work On The P. W. & S.
The Road Will Soon Reach Somerset And The Clearfield Lumber Tract

Work is rapidly progressing on the line of the Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset railroad. The grading has been done and the ties and rails put down as far as what is known as the Gasteiger cut on the road bed of the old South Penn railroad about four miles this side of Somerset town. The work will be pushed forward rapidly by the company and by November first at least the road will be completed to Somerset. There is a good grade on the Somerset side of the mountain and one steep grade on this side by making a cut can be largely overcome by making one switchback.

Work is also going on in building railroad connections to the Clearfield tract of timber on the mountain property bought by the Byers-Allen Lumber company, and as soon as completed the logs will be brought to the Ligonier mills and manufactured into lumber when the mills will again be put into operation giving employment to a number of men.
