P. W. & S. Railroad Going To Somerset
Work Being Pushed By Two Hundred Men
A Passenger Coach Coming

The Road Will Connect Ligonier And Somerset, Open Large Tracts of Timber And Coal Land Will Shorten The Route From Somerset To Pittsburgh, Enabling People To Leave Somerset In Morning And Visit Pittsburgh Returning Same Evening.

Work is progressing on the Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset Railroad from Ligonier to Somerset. One hundred men have been at work on this road for some time and one hundred more will be added to the force this week. The road has been built to the top of the mountain since shortly after the building of the Byers-Allen Lumber mills, over which logs have been shipped. If this road is pushed through to Somerset town, and it certainly will, it will open up a wide field of operations of lumber and coal which will not become exhausted for many years besides giving a passenger travel from Somerset through Ligonier to Pittsburgh and points west which will be a decided advantage to Somerset people and improve Ligonier as well. The route from Somerset to Pittsburgh will be shortened at least 50 miles and the round trip can then be made in one day instead of two as now. It will certainly be an improvement all around.

A passenger coach has been ordered by the P. W. & S. people and will be here in a few days ready for use. We are glad to see these business matters pushed forward, knowing it will be of financial benefit to our town and surrounding country.
