EXCURSIONS CUT DOWN
PROBABILITY IS THEY WILL BE CURTAILED
THE FREIGHT TRAFFIC ON THE PRR IS SO HEAVY THAT IT REQUIRES EVERY AVAILABLE ENGINE AND TRAINMAN AND THE NATURAL RESULT WILL BE THAT MANY OF THE LARGE EXCURSIONS TO IDLEWILD WILL BE SHUT OFF. A BIG KICK WILL GO UP FROM THE LOVERS OF IDLEWILD IF THEY ARE DEPRIVED OF THEIR OUTINGS.
The excursions to dear old Idlewild may be seriously interfered with this coming summer by the congestion on the Pennsylvania Railroad. Tied up as the railroads are and expect to continue for some time by an abnormal freight business, with all the passenger engines that can be spared pressed into freight service, there is little opportunity for anything but regular passenger traffic and the operating departments will try to keep as much of the other as possible off the road.
Nevertheless, Idlewild has become so popular with the residents of Pittsburgh and the neighboring vicinity that there is bound to be a big kick registered if any attempt is made to cut off the annual picnic excursions.
Superintendent George Senft is planning to make Idlewild more attractive than ever this summer and has already made arrangements to have several extensive improvements carried out. The congested condition of the Pennsylvania will not, of course, interfere
with the excursions from Latrobe and it is likely that all of the usual Sunday school picnics will take place again this summer.
