New Railroad Opened
Excursion From Ligonier Last Saturday Over The Road To Coal Mines
Ligonier Valley railroad and the branch of the Westmoreland Central up to the coal mines of the Colonial Coal & Coke company have been completed from Ligonier to the mines.
Last Saturday the first passenger train ran over the road under Conductor C. H. Kuhn. An impromptu excursion was gotten up and a number of Ligonier people were out to see the mines, the coal tipple and the coke ovens. They report an excellent road bed and everything in fine shape. The new iron bridge over the Millcreek run is a fine specimen of good workmanship and is fully in keeping with the excellent work always done by the
Ligonier Valley Railroad company. The bridge has a span of about sixty feet, was built at a turn of the creek on dry ground and the stream then turned to run under the bridge. After an expenditure of a good many thousand dollars the shipping of coal will now soon commence, giving employment to more than one hundred men.
