Opening Coal Mines
Yesterday the excursion to the mines of the Colonial Coal & Coke Company took place at which a number of people from Ligonier, Pittsburgh and other points were present. There was also a sale of lots at North Ligonier. The company is now ready for shipping coal and coke, the road to the mines being opened and connection with the Ligonier Valley railroad. This company with its coal and coke interests, the new town of North Ligonier, its lumber and other products will bring a large number of men to the valley to whom employment will be given, thus increasing the business interests of our town and valley. The company has expended considerable time and money in making preparation to mine and ship coal and now the work of mining, coking and shipping the "black diamonds" will evidently be pushed with considerable energy. We look for much activity in this field of operations the coming year.
