New Railroad Now Building
Right Aways Secured And Grading Commenced
Work Being Pushed Through

Seger Coal & Coke Company Making Ample Preparations To Commence The Mining And Shipping Of Coal The Coal Mine Has Been Opened And As Soon As The Railroad From The Terminus Of The Ligonier Valley Road To The Mines Is Completed The Company Will Be Ready To Mine And Ship Coal

The work on the Westmoreland Central railroad has now begun. Commencing at the terminus of the Ligonier Valley railroad the work of grading, putting down ties and on rails ready for use has been pushed forward rapidly the past week. Grading is also being done at other points along the line of the new railroad. The railroad occupies the line of the Westmoreland Central until it reaches the land of Mrs. Peoples when a branch road leads up to the mines. The completion of this part of the road will enable the Seger Coal & Coke Company to ship the products of the mines at once to market. The mines have already been opened the past winter under the supervision of John M. White, of Scottdale who has charge of this part of the work. The construction of the railroad being under the direction of Mr. John Senft, of Pittsburgh, brother of Geo. Senft, General Manager of the Ligonier Valley railroad. The work on the new railroad and of mining coal and building coke ovens will be pushed forward with all possible speed from now on and it is expected before the close of the summer that the coal operation of the Seger Coal & Coke company will be in full progress.

This new enterprise will evidently be of considerable financial advantage to Ligonier valley people; in fact many of the farmers have already profited considerably in the sale of their coal territory which has brought them a very fair price. The building of this railroad and the operation of the coal fields of the valley will still further advance the financial condition of this section.

Now that the work has commenced and will surely go on the enterprise ought to receive the support and encouragement of our people. The doubters should doubt no more and their want of faith ought to be turned into a strong vigorous support. The Seger Brothers and others associated with them are determined to push this project of opening up the coal and other resources of our valley to a market with all vigor, and we hope soon to see new railroads and other enterprises make the Ligonier valley a real center of industry and enterprise opening up to the market our many and varied resources.
