New Railroad For Ligonier
To Extend From Ligonier To Bolivar Through The Valley
Will Tap Rich Coal Fields
Oliver & Snyder, Of Pittsburgh, Who Have Purchased The Coal Of Over 1,000 Acres Will Construct The Road And The Pennsylvania Railroad Will Put
On The Rolling Stock Will Open A Large Territory Hitherto Without A Market Much Depends On Securing The Right Of Way From The Farmers
Within the last five days it has been authoritively reported that Ligonier valley will
have another railroad. It will be an independent road and extend from Ligonier through the coal field to Bolivar, where it will intersect with the main line of the P.R.R. The projected road will extend from Mill Creek and Hannah's Run through the coal territory recently purchased by the Oliver & Snyder company and continue across Fairfield township to Bolivar. The road will be about 14 miles long and will have regular passenger service and will furnish an important outlet to valley people going east. The only thing necessary to make the road and the development of this coal field an assured fact will be the securing of rights of way from the farmers for the road. The company will evidently be willing to pay a reasonable price for the building of the road but if those owning the land ask exorbitant prices for right of way it may block the whole business and evidently will do so.
We believe that no difficulty will be found in this direction. It is said that the road will be completed and in operation in a few months and ready to ship the coal, mention of the mining of which was made in last week's Echo. As soon as the rights of way have been secured work will evidently begin. The passage of a railroad through the valley will open up an important coal, timber and stone field and bring these commodities into market and cause a big boom in the famous and historic valley. We have a commencement made and are on the eve of a great financial impetus for this community.
