Coal Operations Assured Fact
Ligonier Valley To Be Scene Of Business Activity
To Build Fifty Houses
The John Lytle Farms In Ligonier Township Bought On Which A Coke Town Will Be Built Coke Shipping Way Of Ligonier New Railroad To The Coal Field Operations The Coming Summer By Oliver People
Ligonier valley is now in the midst of a coal excitement which is causing considerable speculation in real estate. This began about a year ago when the leasing of the coal territory of Ligonier valley began in earnest, resulting in the Oliver people of Pittsburgh securing control of more than a thousand acres of the Pittsburgh vein of coal situated in Ligonier and Fairfield townships. This matter has been talked about and written about in the newspapers for some time, but now it is an assured fact. Representatives of the coal operators were in the valley last week making full arrangements to commence operations in the near future.
The two farms formerly belonging to Rev. A. W. Lytle, formerly the John Lytle farms, were purchased surface and coal and this section along the historical Hannah's Run will become the scene of busy coal operations.
Fifty dwelling houses for the miners are to be built, coke ovens to be erected and the mining of the coal will soon commence, changing a quiet farming community into a busy coal center. The shipments are to be made by way of Ligonier, a railroad to be built from the Lytle farm to Ligonier to intersect with the Ligonier Valley railroad at this point. There is no doubt but that this work of opening the coal mines, building houses and constructing the railroad will commence before many weeks and within six months this coal field will be in full operations.
Other coal interests in the valley will follow in course of development until all the coal of the valley will finally find a market. The farmers are securing the money for the coal optioned, making money plenty throughout this section and the mining and coking of the coal will continue in the different sections of the valley. We are at the beginning of a great business activity for Ligonier and vicinity.
