Railroad Extension Practically Settled
The Ligonier Valley To Tap New Coal Field
Right-Of-Way Being Secured

Engineers On The Field Making A Survey Of The Territory To Be Traversed By The Continuation Of The Road Up Millcreek And Hannah's Run

The Ligonier Valley railroad is to be extended as soon as practicable into the coal territory north of town to tap the Pittsburgh vein of coal. The extension to start at the Ligonier station and go up Mill Creek to Lose and then up Hannah's Run to the coal field.

Engineers were out from Pittsburgh last week but on account of the deep snow left and returned again on Monday morning of this week and are going over the route that was surveyed several years ago.

Mr. George Senft, the general manager of the Ligonier Valley railroad has been out several days securing the right-of-way and the prospects are good for an extension of the road in the very near future. This will mean of course the shipment of the coal recently bought by the Snyder & Oliver Coal company of Pittsburgh via the L.V.R.R. and will therefore benefit Ligonier much more than if the coal was taken out by some other route. This will be a benefit to the farmers all along the road who should be willing to sell the right-of-way to the railroad people at a reasonable figure which they evidently will do and as the corporation will be willing to pay a fair price this matter hardly will retard the building of this road which will be beneficial to all parties concerned.
