Railroad Extension Will Reach Somerset
Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset To Cross Mountain
Continuation Of Road Assured
Rights-Of-Way Being Secured In Somerset County Will Bring That County Closer To Ligonier And Shorten Distance To Pittsburgh Forty Miles At Least
The extension of the Pittsburg, Westmoreland and Somerset railroad is conceded to be an assured fact. Those who are in position to know say that the road will be completed from its present terminus on the mountain near the Zufall place to Somerset about the middle of the coming summer.
The company's agents have been at work for some time on the right-of-way and an almost continuance right-of-way has been secured to the town of Somerset. The line will strike the South Penn roadway near the foot of the mountain on the eastern side and
follow it to near Husband from where a convenient route will lead to Somerset.
The Echo has spoken a number of times of the advantages of the extension of this road, especially to Somerset county people by opening up a new outlet for traffic and in shortening the distance by at least forty miles to Pittsburgh and we also think that Ligonier will be benefited by the completion of this road to Somerset as it will bring much travel and business this way.
