The New Railroad

Last week work was commenced on the Unity Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. This is the road that will extend from Latrobe a distance of seven miles towards Mt. Pleasant. The first ground broken was at a point a short distance beyond St. Vincent's Abbey. E. J. Gaynor, of Philadelphia, is the contractor, his office being located I the Rodgers Block, on Depot street, Latrobe.

A large number of Italians are at present engaged on the work. Mr. Gaynor is not unknown in Latrobe, as he a few years ago conducted a stone quarry along the Line of the Ligonier Valley Railroad, at which time there was a stopping point on the line known as Gaynor Station.
