A Big Stone Quarry
A Mammoth Building Stone Quarry Opened Near Latrobe

Out the Ligonier Valley Railroad about three miles has been opened one of the largest building stone quarries in the country, and its rapid development and importance as an industry, only awaits the opening of the building season. It is owned and operated by President of Council, C. W. Walter, one of our leading businessmen, whose connection with it assures success.

Already a face of valuable stone, 45 feet high and 400 feet long, has been exposed and this length can be increased to 1,000 feet, making the capacity of the quarry almost unlimited. The top of this huge block of stone for about 15 feet is a fine quality of rough flags, suitable for crossings and unsurpassed for foundation stone. The remaining portion is divided naturally into ledges, ranging from one foot to feet in thickness. These are of a good quality of sandstone, are easily quarried and dressed and can be delivered in the Latrobe market at a very reasonable figure.

Mr. Walter is devoting his entire attention to the development of this quarry and has had a siding from the L.V.R.R. to the quarry put in, and can deliver any quantity, of the best building stone at any point along the Ligonier Railroad. He has established a stone yard in the Y for the convenience of builders.

Low freight rates, the facility and ease in operating the quarry and the superior quality of the stone will enable him to distance all competitors in supplying the Latrobe contractors.

A number of persons have endeavored to locate building stone quarries within easy reach of Latrobe, but have been unsuccessful in securing any of satisfactory quality. The tract of land on which the mammoth quarry is situated is owned by Mr. Walter and comprises thirty-five acres, thus giving him ample room to successfully operate it. We advise our contractors and builders to interview Mr. W. before giving their orders for stone.
