On A Car Truck
The Perilous Position In Which Two Ligonier Children Were Found
Saturday last just as the train on the Ligonier Valley Railroad had gotten under way and was moving out of the "yard" at Ligonier, a gentleman standing near the track pointed to the train and shouted to the engineer, S. L. French, to "look under the car." The air brakes were immediately applied and the train brought to a standstill. A glance under the first coach showed two goys stretched out upon the woodwork of the forward truck. They were taken from their perch and found to be the children of Jacob Blansit, of Ligonier, the one being between four and five years of age and the other between six and seven. They had taken their position in this perilous place with the intention, no doubt, of stealing a ride to Latrobe, and it was by the merest chance that they were discovered. Had the train proceeded on its way they would have been thrown off and ground to pieces beneath the wheels. We understand that these children, while not really vicious or bad, have caused their parents a great deal of trouble by running about the town when told to stay at home. This last escapade should prove a warning to the children as well as induce the parents to deal more strictly with them in the future.
