The Ligonier Valley Railroad

It is stated that the Ligonier Valley Railroad has passed entirely into the hands of Mellon Brothers, of East Liberty. These gentlemen already own about four-fifths of the stock of the road and the purchase of the minority stock which was held by Latrobe and Ligonier parties principally is keeping with the enterprise of this well known firm. It is rumored that the road will be extended up the valley a short distance and the hitherto undeveloped coal fields of that opened up and coke works established, whether true or not it would be a great boom for Ligonier and deserves the aid and encouragement of the citizens of that place. There is probably no road in the country of its size, so well equipped and so systematically conducted as the Ligonier Valley; the passenger accommodations are first-class; freight is transported promptly and improvements in the rolling stock and road bed are constantly being made. To its able Superintendent, Mr. George Senft, is due, in a great measure, the present excellent condition of the different departments of the road. Mr. Senft is an accommodating and efficient officer and is deservedly popular both in Latrobe and Ligonier.
