Samuel S. Brownfield, 65, Is Called By Death Wed.
Samuel S. Brownfield, 65, Ligonier Borough Engineer and prominent in the field of coal industry here for many years, died at 7 o'clock Wednesday evening at his home east of Ligonier, following a heart attack. Mr. Brownfield had not been well for some time but his condition had not been regarded as serious until the day before his death. He had worked as usual Tuesday.
Mr. Brownfield, born September 8, 1882 in Uniontown, Pa., a son of the late William
and Elizabeth (Sackett) Brownfield, had been a resident of Ligonier for the past forty years.
He had been employed by the Atlantic Crushed Coke Co., at Millwood for the past six years as Mine Engineer. He had been Boro Engineer for more than 16 years. Mr. Brownfield was superintendent of the Ramsey Coal Company when it operated during the boom coal days here in the twenties.
Surviving are his widow Lou and the following children: William N. Brownfield of Philadelphia; Mrs. H. N. Benninghoff of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Basil B. Brownfield of Ligonier and Richard B. Brownfield at home. Also surviving are six grandchildren and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. John Jeffries of Uniontown; Mrs. John Fullman of Pittsburgh and Basil B. Brownfield of Uniontown.
Funeral services in charge of Rev. Walter Reed, Jr., pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Sibel Funeral Home, 144 E. Main St. Burial will follow in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
