Club-Car Boasts Running Water, Bunks, Stove

The rugged individualists up Ligonier way are going in for frills.
After 50 years of the stern life, trainmen of the Mellon-owned Ligonier Valley Railroad are riding in luxury in a new (second-hand) caboose.
Life Grows Easier
Which just goes to show that life isn't as harsh as it was once, and that even the most Spartan citizens can be infected by that old bug Comfort.
Not that the 10-mile railroad never had a caboose before. It boasted one 50 years ago, when the late R. B. Mellon was a conductor on the line.
That was in the narrow-gauge days, and that old caboose was as hard to keep on the track as the Toonerville Trolley. It became a tool shed when the track was widened.
Rivalry For "Club-Car"
Now there's a new "club-car," and the two crews are sort of looking daggers at each other, inasmuch as only one can use the caboose at a time. Said Conductor R. D. Piper:
"Sure, it has running water if you fill the tank and eight bunks. The boys like the uppers they have pads. The heating stove will be handy for making slum and hot coffee."
The railroad connects Ligonier and Latrobe, passing Idlewild Park. One trip a day is the schedule.
